What is Keyword Density?

A keyword Density is the percentage of number of times a particular keyword is used to the total number of words in a given post.

Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total number of words on the page. So How is Keyword Density calculated?

Many online tools are available to calculate the keyword density. Using keyword density checker tools will tell you how many times different keyword phrases are used all throughout your post.

If you want to calculate keyword density for a particular word then you can do it manually too.

Let us take our previous example. Suppose you have written a post consisting of 500 words. You have mentioned the term healthy diet 5 times. (5/500)*100=1 . So here your Keyword Density will be 1%.

If your article is of 1000 words consisting your targeted keyword 5 times then it would be 0.5% as (5/1000)*100=0.5

But very high keyword density does not mean that your page will rank high because using excess keyword density will affect your SEO negatively. Your readers may also find your article irritating with the repetition of the same words over and over again. So there is an optimal keyword density by which your post will not only be readable but also will be safe for Search Engine Optimization.

An optimal keyword density is between 0.5% to 2.5 %. If I want any of my post to be ideal for search engine then I always try to use my focused keyword between 0.6%-2.3%. When you use your targeted keyword over 2.5 % then it adversely effects your ranking.

Keyword spamming basically occurs when you try to put your targeted keyword way more than what is natural. You will generally not be labelled as keyword spammer if you naturally write your post. Some sites may put their targeted keywords several times below their posts which can be labelled as spam.

Keyword spamming can be easily avoided just by keeping your density level below recommended 2.5%.  Write your post naturally as if you are speaking to someone. This way you can easily avoid keyword spamming and get the optimal keyword density as inserting a particular phrase more than 6-7 times is not natural.

This is a question which bothers most of the people when they start blogging. Many one of us as faced the issue of very low keyword density. So check out some easy ways to insert the targeted word which can make your post more meaningful.

  1. Always use it the Title of the post.
  2. Use it in the first and last paragraph of your content as providing with an introduction and summarizing up as a conclusion will make the post more meaningful.
  3. Make a separate heading with your targeted keyword and use the keyword once more in its content.

Yes that will definitely increase your keyword density and you may be expecting to rank well in search engines. But alas, search engines is not so stupid.
