This hashbrown casserole recipe requires a few steps before you can combine all the ingredients altogether in a casserole.

HASHBROWN CASSEROLE RECIPE

 

 

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE HASHBROWN

  • 4 Potatoes (Medium)
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika

FOR THE PASTA

  • 1 cup pasta
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp oil

FOR THE CASSEROLE

  • 4 cheese slices
  • 1 egg +1 tsp salt (optional)
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce

 

DIRECTIONS

Prep time: 10 minutes

FOR THE HASHBROWN POTATO

  • Shred potatoes in a large bowl filled with cold water.
  • Stir until cloudy, drain the water and refill with fresh cold water.
  • Drain potatoes well and pat dry with a paper towel and remove any excess moisture.
  • On a large pan add the 3tbsp butter on medium flame.
  • Add the shredded dry potatoes in the hot butter along with the seasoning of salt, paprika, and pepper.
  • Cook the potatoes for 7-8 minutes until a light brown crust forms on the potatoes all over.

 

FOR THE PASTA

Prep time: 1 minute

  • In microwavable glassware add 1 cup of pasta. 3 cups water, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp oil (So the pasta does not stick together).
  • Cook for 7-8 minutes until soft.
  • Drain the water when done.

 

FOR THE CASSEROLE

Prep time: 5 minutes

  • In a microwavable casserole place the cooked pasta at the bottom.
  • Add 2 tsp tomato sauce, 1/2 tsp salt and mix with the pasta.
  • Place 2 pieces of cheese on top of it.
  • Next, add the hashbrown potatoes like the next layer along with the rest of the tomato sauce mixture.
  • Place the other 2 slices of cheese on top of that.
  • Add 1 egg + 1tsp salt as the topmost layer.
  • Cook for 6-8 Minutes till a light crust of egg forms on the sides of the casserole. The middle of the casserole will still look watery because of the excess heat. But when you can see light crusts forming on the sides then be sure your hashbrown casserole is done.
